Sven Schild, PhD, SEP, TCC

Welcome. I'm Dr. Sven Schild, a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 20 years of experience providing evidence-based psychotherapy for adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, attachment trauma, men's mental health concerns, LGBTQ+ issues, and major life transitions. Based in San Diego, California, I provide secure online therapy to individuals located throughout California, Hawaii, Florida, Virginia, and Washington, DC, helping clients build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create lasting emotional well-being.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model, I integrate Humanistic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR Therapy, Somatic Experiencing® (SE™), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP™), and Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning Experience (DARe) to address both the emotional and physiological effects of stress, trauma, and adversity. Together, we work to reduce symptoms, increase psychological flexibility, regulate the nervous system, and foster meaningful, lasting change.
As an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist™ and EMDRIA Approved Consultant™, I bring advanced expertise in the treatment of trauma, PTSD, dissociation, and attachment-related difficulties. I am also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) with advanced training in body-oriented trauma therapies, allowing treatment to extend beyond traditional talk therapy. By integrating evidence-based psychotherapy with neuroscience-informed, attachment-focused, and somatic approaches, I help clients process difficult life experiences, reconnect with their strengths, and move toward a more authentic, resilient, and fulfilling life.

Choosing a psychologist is one of the most important decisions you can make in your mental health journey. While therapeutic approaches and techniques certainly matter, decades of research consistently demonstrate that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is among the strongest predictors of meaningful and lasting change. Feeling understood, respected, and genuinely supported creates the foundation upon which deeper healing and personal growth can occur.
My practice is intentionally designed for adults who value a thoughtful, collaborative, and evidence-based approach to psychotherapy. I encourage you to explore the information throughout this website to gain a sense of my philosophy, areas of specialization, and therapeutic style. Finding the right psychologist is about more than credentials or experience—it is about discovering a professional relationship where you feel safe, understood, and confident in the work you will do together.
If my approach resonates with you, I would be honored to learn more about your story. Together, we can explore your goals, develop a personalized treatment plan, and work toward greater emotional resilience, psychological flexibility, and lasting well-being.
Psychotherapy is not simply about reducing symptoms—it's about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, strengthening emotional resilience, and creating meaningful, lasting change. Whether you are navigating the effects of trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, major life transitions, or a persistent sense of feeling stuck, therapy offers a collaborative space to foster healing, insight, and psychological growth.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, I provide specialized online psychotherapy for adults throughout California, as well as individuals located in Hawaii, Florida, Virginia, and Washington, DC. My work integrates EMDR Therapy, Somatic Experiencing®, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), attachment-based psychotherapy, and other evidence-based approaches to create treatment that is thoughtfully tailored to each individual's unique history, strengths, and goals.
1. Trauma Recovery & Emotional Well-Being
3. Personal Growth & Life Transitions

Meaningful psychotherapy begins with understanding the individual—not simply the diagnosis. Every person brings a unique history, personality, relationships, strengths, and life experiences to therapy. Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, I develop a personalized treatment plan that is thoughtfully tailored to your goals, drawing from leading evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches that support both psychological well-being and nervous system regulation. My work integrates scientifically supported therapies to foster lasting emotional resilience, deeper self-understanding, and meaningful psychological change.
At the heart of my practice is a humanistic philosophy that values authenticity, compassion, and the healing potential of a strong therapeutic relationship. Therapy provides a collaborative space to cultivate greater self-awareness, strengthen emotional resilience, and navigate life's challenges with increased clarity and confidence.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most extensively researched treatments for trauma and PTSD. As an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant, I provide advanced EMDR therapy to help individuals process traumatic experiences, reduce emotional distress, and develop healthier, more adaptive ways of relating to themselves and others. EMDR can be highly effective for trauma, complex PTSD, attachment trauma, medical trauma, military trauma, first responder stress, anxiety, and distressing life experiences.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps individuals develop greater psychological flexibility by learning to respond more effectively to difficult thoughts and emotions while living in accordance with their personal values. ACT is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety, depression, perfectionism, stress, self-criticism, and life transitions, promoting resilience and a greater sense of meaning and purpose.
Somatic Experiencing® is a specialized, body-oriented approach to trauma recovery that supports nervous system regulation and resilience. By working with the body's innate capacity to heal, this approach can help reduce chronic stress, anxiety, and the lingering effects of traumatic experiences while restoring a greater sense of balance and well-being.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy® integrates psychotherapy, mindfulness, and body awareness to address trauma, attachment wounds, emotional dysregulation, and chronic stress. By increasing awareness of physical sensations and nervous system responses, individuals develop new patterns of regulation that support lasting emotional and relational well-being.
Many emotional and relational challenges originate in early attachment experiences. Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning Experience (DARe) is an experiential approach that helps transform longstanding patterns affecting self-esteem, relationships, emotional regulation, and connection. It can be particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing attachment trauma, abandonment fears, emotional disconnection, complex trauma, and persistent relationship difficulties.
Healing rarely follows a single pathway. Rather than applying one therapeutic method to every individual, I thoughtfully integrate evidence-based psychotherapy, trauma-informed care, and body-oriented approaches to create treatment that reflects your unique history, strengths, and goals.
Whether you are seeking support for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, or personal growth, therapy is designed to help you cultivate greater emotional resilience, deepen self-understanding, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Beginning psychotherapy is a meaningful investment in your emotional well-being, relationships, and personal growth. Whether you are seeking support for trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or a significant life transition, I strive to make the process thoughtful, transparent, and personalized from our very first conversation.
